.1The Problem: The ”Deep End” Phenomenon
The current commercial real estate and data center landscape is hindered by an ”Execution Gap” that impacts multiple layers of the industry. We built this platform to solve widespread commissioning management problems stemming from four distinct challenges:
- The ”Deep End” Phenomenon: Every day, junior engineers are thrown into the deep end. They are expected to create, manage, or participate in the commissioning process with no formal training, insufficient reference materials, and limited mentorship.
- The Cross-Skilling Bottleneck: The rapid growth of the mission-critical sector requires experienced talent, drawing veteran project managers and engineers from heavy industrial fields like oil and gas. However, despite possessing decades of fundamental engineering and testing expertise, these professionals often struggle to secure roles or adapt quickly because they lack the highly specific procedural knowledge and documentation experience required specifically for data center commissioning.
- The ”Only the CxA Does Commissioning” Myth: There is a widespread industry misconception that commissioning is a siloed task performed solely by the Commissioning Provider. In reality, a successful handover requires a collaborative effort. Currently, there is a severe lack of guidance to help the Owner / CxP, Project Managers, Facilities Engineers, Design Engineers, and General Contractors fully understand their exact responsibilities, deliverables, and integration points within the overall process.
- The Auxiliary Knowledge Gap: The commissioning skills gap also impacts the professionals supporting the industry. Technical recruiters, HR teams, and business developers frequently need to understand the nuances of the commissioning sector. Without jargon-free resources, they struggle to speak confidently with clients, evaluate engineering talent accurately, and build cohesive project teams.
The industry traditionally leaves these diverse groups to figure it out using dense guidelines, and standards. After creating we realized a centralized, practical hyper focused reference hub was required to cut through the confusion and help people standardize delivery.
.3Our Philosophy: Giving Back Your Professional Bandwidth
We believe that in an industry where billable hours are the primary currency, the time required for a professional to research, format, and verify a Commissioning Plan or an Integrated Systems Testing (IST) script from scratch is cost-prohibitive.
We don't just help with files; we help Professional Bandwidth.
Our mission is to translate complex industry requirements into clear, step-by-step digital assets and training materials that can be used by all.
.5The Vision: The Ultimate Industry Reference
We exist to be the definitive ”Wikipedia plus Toolbelt” for the global commissioning sector.
By providing rigorous, field-tested administrative structures, editable templates, and clear educational content, we allow people involved in the commissioning process to bypass the steep learning curve. Our goal is to replace the anxiety of the ”deep end” with the confidence of a respected expert, helping individuals and enterprise teams standardise their delivery and execute with certainty.
.230 Years in the Field
This platform was not created by a software company; it was built from experience and the site office.
Founder Jeremy Curtis entered the construction industry in 1995 as a junior engineer trained on a drawing board. Over a 30-year career spanning the UK, Hong Kong, Macau, China, and Malaysia, he progressed through mechanical project management to senior commissioning roles, working and delivering Casino's, Data Centers and complex commercial facilities for global entities like Digital Realty, Equinix, Alibaba Cloud, HSBC, Barclays International Banking, Wynn Palace and Citi Bank.
Throughout these projects, the same problem appeared repeatedly; a disconnect between the required structured commissioning process and what was actually being delivered on the project. Whether dealing with a new engineering graduate or a veteran oil-and-gas project manager transitioning to data centers, the struggle with this disconnect was a consistent and common problem; even though it didn't need to be.
Commissioning Manager was founded to be the virtual mentor and practical toolkit that the industry so desperately lacks.
.4Why Create This When We Already Have Construct and Commission?
If you have followed our work over the years, you likely know our sister site, Construct and Commission (www.commissioningmanager.com). So, why build an entirely new platform?
The answer comes down to the difference between the way each is working.
Construct and Commission was built as a niche blog and informational repository hobby. Something I wish I had access to when learning the ropes in commissioning. The site then turned into something that was not expected having a global reach and being referenced in multiple countries and continents. It serves as a great place to read general articles, understand high-level concepts, and find answers to specific technical questions. However, as the industry's skills gap widened and the site grew, we realised that professionals needed more than just articles to survive in this market and industry. They needed a structured, productised ecosystem.
We built Commissioning Manager to be a dedicated, expert-driven platform. It bridges the gap between knowing the theory and actually managing the process on in real life.
While Construct and Commission tells you what the process is, Commissioning Manager gives you the tools to do it with a much deeper understanding. It serves as our centralised hub for:
Ultimately, the two sites work together. Construct and Commission provides foundational knowledge, while Commissioning Manager provides the depth, training, and operational frameworks required to deliver world class projects inline with the full process.
